Underwriting Analyst
The Underwriting Analyst provides critical analytical and operational support to Stop Loss Underwriters by ensuring underwriting data, risk parameters, and risk selection meet BCS Financial Corporation standards and underwriting guidelines. This role completes all aspects of underwriting files from both an underwriting and risk perspective, enabling informed, timely underwriting decisions. Success in this role requires a detail-oriented, analytically driven professional with strong Excel and data evaluation skills, exposure to stop loss or self-funded health plans, and the ability to collaborate effectively with Underwriters, Actuaries, and Sales partners in a fast-paced environment. This position reports to the AVP, Underwriting Life & Health. Essential Elements Quote Review Review accuracy of submitted underwriting data and input fields; validate that quotes meet underwriting guidelines prior to release Expense Review Confirm appropriate expense assumptions and setup within underwriting systems State & Regulatory Review Ensure compliance with applicable state requirements and regulatory considerations Experience Review Set up and analyze specific and aggregate experience data parameters Clinical Review Summary Review and analyze large claim information to identify potential risks and emerging trends Risk Assessment Support Assist with evaluation of risk parameters for stop loss and self-funded plans Quote Recommendation Prepare comprehensive group write-ups and underwriting summaries for Senior Underwriter review Data Management Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure data integrity across systems Requirements Education and Certifications Bachelor's degree preferred in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Actuarial Science, or a related field Associate's degree or commensurate experience considered Progress toward insurance designations (e.g., AU, AINS, CPCU, HIA, FLMI ) is a plus Experience 24 years of insurance industry experience, preferably in: Stop loss underwriting Health insurance or self-funded plan environments Underwriting support, analyst, or coordinator roles Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis) Experience working with underwriting systems, databases, or rating tools preferred
