Extended Day Program Overview The Extended Day Program at MICDS runs from 3-6pm when school is in session. Extended Day staff supervise and work with groups of children in grades JK-4th, with occasional supervision of a small group of students in 5th-8th grade. Staff ensure the safety of the children as they lead them through the afternoon with activities such as homework, arts & crafts, outdoor playground, and more. There are also opportunities to work Holiday Camps (full-day camps) and to work after care during Pegasus summer camp.

Assistant Director of Extended Day JOB SUMMARY

Hours: 12:00-6:00pm

Hours can be before 12pm if needed by the Head of Lower School and/or the Assistant Head of Lower School.

Hours can be after 6pm if a parent has not arrived on time and/or if needed by the Head of Lower School and/or the Assistant Head of Lower School.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS During the school year and Pegasus summer camp, the Assistant Director of Extended Day takes the place of the Director of Extended Day in the event of illness or absence, which includes:

Managing a team of staff members

Ensuring that Extended Day/Enrichment Classes and all other after school activities associated with Extended Day run smoothly

Taking care of any hurt/sick children after school

Managing any disciplinary problems

Communicating directly with parents

Assist, or when directed, manage the supervision of the Extended Day staff while inside or outside

Handle all Extended Day snack ordering and preparation, which includes:

Making a snack schedule for students in Grades JK-4, taking into account allergy safety and age appropriateness

Working with Food Service Staff to order snacks for students in Grades JK-4

Getting snacks ready for the day, organizing and maintaining snack storage

Manage a group or groups of students during Extended Day, which includes:

A passion for teaching/engaging students ages JK-4

Having good behavior management techniques

Assisting with homework when necessary

Assist when needed, in supervising the MS supervision students, which includes:

Managing a group of students during the scheduled time

Receiving and responding to texts of parents at the time of pickup

Be present for all Holiday Camp days and assist the Director of Extended Day in any ways necessary, including:

Greeting parents at drop off and collecting lunch money/permission slips when necessary

Leading a group of students during field trips

Activity planning when necessary

Other duties include but are not limited to:

Assisting in creating daily and special programming for the Lower School that utilizes both internal staff and external contractors

Managing attendance for Extended Day

Assist in managing attendance for Enrichment classes

Creating and managing the rosters for Extended Day, including expected students and drop ins

Preparing and managing the iPads or daily attendance sheets for student sign in and sign out

Other projects, responsibilities and duties may be assigned by the Director of Extended Day, the Head of the Lower School or the Assistant Head of Lower School

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Ability to work well and enjoy interaction with diverse patrons of all ages including preschool, elementary, and middle school students. Prior experience in education required. Experience in after school programs preferred. Works effectively under pressure and has the ability to complete multiple tasks when faced with periodic interruptions and limited supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills. Ability to use Microsoft and Google applications. An Associate degree required. A Bachelor’s degree preferred. Extra-curricular school programming or related experience is preferred.

OTHER INFORMATION A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed. Summer availability is necessary. Generally works in standard office conditions and climate. May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time. Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Duties require extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, and talking or hearing. Requires the ability to regularly lift more than 20 pounds. Duties require occasional periods of climbing or balancing, pulling/pushing items, lifting/carrying items, keyboarding, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to transport oneself to work-related meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School’s discretion.
