
Compliance Specialist

Overview
Ultimate Staffing Services is actively seeking an experienced Compliance Specialist to join their client's team in Colorado. This role involves ensuring that the company's operations are in compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations. The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a comprehensive understanding of HR compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
Review, assess, and remediate employment‑related compliance risks across federal, state, and local regulations.
Perform systematic compliance reviews across all operating jurisdictions to ensure regulatory alignment.
Coordinate with external vendors, payroll partners, and government agencies to confirm proper setup and maintenance of employer tax registrations, unemployment insurance accounts, and legally required deductions and contributions.
Monitor and support payroll compliance requirements (e.g., taxation, unemployment), partnering closely with a dedicated payroll resource; this role does not process payroll.
Serve as a subject‑matter resource for people leaders on employment regulations, labor law guidance, and required statutory programs such as FMLA, ADA, and workers' compensation.
Oversee compliance components of leave of absence and ADA administration as needed.
Evaluate, organize, and enhance HR compliance records and documentation, including personnel files, required workplace policies, and compliance manuals and reference materials.
Identify gaps, prioritize risk areas, and execute corrective actions to achieve and maintain compliance standing.
Draft and distribute internal guidance or updates related to regulatory or policy changes.
Track and manage compliance‑driven deadlines such as renewals, filings, and mandatory trainings.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in HR, People Operations, or a related function with a primary focus on compliance.
Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply state‑ and local‑specific requirements.
Prior experience conducting compliance reviews, audits, or remediation initiatives.
Detail‑oriented mindset with strong documentation and process management skills.
Comfort working independently in fast‑moving or corrective environments.
Experience working with HR platforms or systems used for compliance tracking and reporting (Paycor exposure preferred).
Work Hours Hybrid Schedule: Tuesday – Thursday in‑office; Monday – Friday 8:00–5:00.
