Job Opportunity Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Technician to join the Executive and Professional Lines Underwriting team based in our New York office. The Underwriting Technician (UT) will play a critical role while supporting the Executive and Professional Lines underwriting team and will perform tasks to directly support the underwriting process including pre‑quote, pre‑bind, bind and post bind transactions. The UT will also have the opportunity to work directly with all departments within our organization while coordinating information flow and operational support, as well working with our external broker partners by supporting the teams’ marketing and policy issuance efforts.
Essential Job Functions
Support underwriters with all activities related to account development
Build files and ensure file integrity
Coordinate policy issuance and liaise with Operations team
Triage broker submissions and ensure all required underwriting data is accurate
Draft quotes and binders and review with underwriters
Correspond with brokers; follow up on outstanding information
Act as a liaison to the Operations Group
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
2‑5 years of insurance experience
General understanding of policy construction and the policy issuance process
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Careful attention to detail
Must be proactive and able to work within a team environment
Self‑starter; ability to support and build workflow and process
Strong communication skills; both verbal and written
College diploma, University degree or equivalent experience
Strong competency in MS Office applications

The base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture. NOTE: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
