$147,600-$216,480, bonus & long-term incentive eligible. Compensation is location-dependent, with St. Louis at the lower end of the range and New York City at the upper end.

Role Summary The
Director, Tax Strategy
is a senior leadership role within the
North America Zone Tax
organization, responsible for driving tax planning initiatives while serving as the
internal income tax accounting subject matter expert under U.S. GAAP (ASC 740) , with
working knowledge and coordination responsibilities related to IFRS income tax accounting (IAS 12) . This role will lead tax planning efforts in close coordination with the broader tax strategy team and will be accountable for ensuring that all acquisitions, dispositions, internal restructurings, and other complex transactions are properly analyzed, documented, and reflected in accordance with ASC 740 and appropriately aligned with IAS 12 where relevant, in the financial statements, books and records, and tax returns. The Director will serve as the primary liaison between the Tax Strategy and Tax Operations teams, ensuring seamless execution from planning through tax accounting, reporting, and compliance. The role will also coordinate tax‑related inquiries from external financial statement auditors related to tax planning initiatives and complex transactions. The role reports to the Head of Tax Strategy, North America Zone.
Job Responsibilities Tax Planning & Strategy
Support and execute North America tax planning initiatives, including legal entity structuring, transaction planning, and ongoing optimization strategies
Partner with business, legal, finance, treasury, and corporate development teams to evaluate tax implications of strategic initiatives
Assess tax risks and opportunities associated with acquisitions, dispositions, internal restructurings, and other complex transactions
Income Tax Accounting & Technical Reporting
Serve as the internal ASC 740 income tax accounting subject matter expert, with responsibility for coordinating and interpreting IAS 12 considerations in a global reporting environment
Lead and review income tax accounting analyses related to:
Recognition and measurement of current and deferred income taxes
Purchase accounting and tax basis step‑ups
Outside basis differences and entity‑level tax considerations
Indefinite reinvestment assertions and related disclosures
Valuation allowance assessments
Uncertain tax positions and judgmental tax reserves
Prepare, review, and maintain technical accounting memoranda supporting income tax accounting conclusions, including documentation of relevant framework differences
Review and support preparation of tax‑related financial statement disclosures, roll‑forwards, & supporting schedules
Integration Between Strategy and Operations
Act as the primary liaison between Tax Strategy and Tax Operations to ensure all planning initiatives are accurately reflected in:
Financial statements and income tax provision calculations
Books and records
Tax returns and related filings
Translate tax planning structures into executable, sustainable, and auditable accounting and compliance outcomes
Audit & Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary tax contact for financial statement auditors on matters related to tax planning and income tax accounting
Coordinate responses to audit inquiries, including preparation and review of technical memoranda, workpapers, and supporting documentation
Provide clear, well‑supported explanations of tax accounting positions to auditors, controllership, and senior finance leadership
Global Coordination
Coordinate with global tax, finance, and accounting teams to ensure alignment between ASC 740 conclusions and IAS 12 considerations, as applicable
Support consistency in income tax accounting positions and documentation across reporting frameworks in a multinational environment
Act as a point of connection between North America tax strategy and global stakeholders on income tax accounting implications of planning initiatives
Governance & Process Excellence
Establish and maintain strong income tax accounting governance, documentation standards, and internal controls
Identify opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency, and communication across Tax Strategy, Tax Operations, and Finance
Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA, JD, or master’s degree in taxation strongly preferred
Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in tax strategy, tax accounting, or related disciplines
Experience in a large multinational corporation, public accounting firm, or law firm
Experience working with large ERP systems and income tax provision and reporting processes
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
Deep knowledge of U.S. federal income tax and income tax accounting under ASC 740
Exposure to IFRS income tax accounting (IAS 12) and experience coordinating with global teams in a multinational environment
Significant experience with tax accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, internal restructurings, and other non‑routine transactions
Strong understanding of the interaction between tax planning, financial reporting, and compliance
Demonstrated experience interacting with external auditors on income tax accounting matters
Strong analytical and technical writing skills, including preparation of income tax accounting memoranda
Ability to communicate complex tax and accounting concepts clearly to non‑tax stakeholders
Proven ability to manage multiple complex workstreams in a fast‑paced environment
Strong judgment, attention to detail, and an ownership mindset
