Position Overview The Customer Service & Marketing Specialist plays a dual role supporting both front‑of‑house operations and the Shelter’s marketing and communications efforts. This position ensures an exceptional guest experience while also helping amplify the Shelter’s mission through engaging content, storytelling, and digital outreach.

This role is ideal for someone who is both people‑oriented and creatively driven—comfortable assisting adopters one moment and helping produce social media content the next.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service

Greeting visitors, answering phones and emails

Assisting with adoptions, intake, and public inquiries

Maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional lobby environment

Process transactions including adoptions, donations, and retail sales

Ensure accurate and timely data entry in ShelterLuv

Support intake processes including documentation and photo uploads

Collaborate with animal care and behavior teams to ensure animals are properly represented and adoption‑ready

Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and elevate when needed

Assist with opening/closing procedures and daily operational checklists

Support clinics, outreach events, and volunteer coordination as needed

Marketing & Communications Support

Assist Marketing Manager with content creation and execution, including assembling and preparing newsletters

Creating and scheduling social media content

Supporting general marketing and promotional efforts

Help manage and grow digital presence for key programs, including the Desert Wildlife Center and Desert Community Animal Center

Photography & Content Coordination

Maintain and organize photo/video library

Assist with scheduling and executing photoshoots

Media & Outreach Support

Assist with preparation for “Pet of the Week” segments

Coordinate logistics and prep materials for media appearances

Additional Skills

Assist with basic video editing for social media content

Support graphic design needs (flyers, social posts, event materials)

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Minimum 1 year customer service experience required

Experience in marketing, communications, or social media necessary

Animal welfare experience a plus

Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written + verbal)

Organized and detail‑oriented with ability to multitask

Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Social Media platform proficiency – Instagram, Facebook, etc.

Google Workplace / Microsoft Office proficient

Video editing tools experience (CapCut, iMovie, Adobe Premiere)

Graphic design tool experience (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)

Ability to learn ShelterLuv or similar database systems

This job requires you to be able to sit for long periods of time, use a computer and phones, and be exposed to both people and animals – and their related noise – constantly.
