Job Summary The role coordinates and produces content for internal media and engages faculty, staff, and students to generate compelling ideas for articles to promote the institution in campus publications, including email, newsletters, web pages, and social media. This role helps ensure all campus messages are ADA‑compliant and assists with the coordination, production, and distribution of written, audio, and video communications, including copywriting/editing support for published Jagwire articles. The communications coordinator functions as the department's AP Style expert, maintaining university editorial standards and guides.
Responsibilities
Content creation, including writing and editing, and campus and community outreach.
Project support and backup for the internal communications manager, strategy around planning and delivering internal campus messaging through mass emails, including crisis communications.
Curate, write, and complete two Jagwire stories and an additional brief each month.
Provide writing and editing support, mentorship, and coaching for campus communications and faculty experts and build key relationships with sources around campus.
Develop and provide training modules to support campus partners and ensure consistency in messaging.
Lead communications and marketing strategy on Spring and Fall Commencement stories, Values Week, and coordinate project management for AU initiatives.
Maintain style guide, ensure ADA compliance, and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Minimum bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in communications and marketing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in writing, media relations, journalism, project management, and relationship building.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work in a collaborative, creative and fast‑paced environment with strong attention to detail.
Experience with mass email systems and protocols.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
Shift / Salary / Benefits Shift: Days/M-F (working outside of normal business hours may be required for an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B7
Salary Range: $42,200 – $50,111.36 annually (commensurate with qualifications within the established range)
Benefits: health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees with more than 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
