Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Warden.
The incumbent will assist in managing, planning, implementation and coordination of ongoing services in the agency's centralized pre-release program, which will include supervision of educational services, chaplaincy, volunteer services and human services/clinical counselors.
Coordinates with other divisions and outside agencies to ensure inmates in the pre-release program have access to available services and programs to assist them in their transition back into the community.
Supervises maintenance and sanitation in assigned areas.
Serves as on-call official on a rotating basis.
Writes policies and procedures for a level 1 institution.
Prepares (writes) various reports, special studies and staff papers, including recommendations relating to proposed changes in policies, procedures, rules, regulations and laws.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
SCDC Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and ten (10) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, which must include five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
A bachelor’s degree may substitute for 4 years of overall experience.
Associate degree may substitute for 2 years of overall experience.
No substitutions for supervisory experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
