Job Summary In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities

Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews design work within a small-size PD&P design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of the global business unit.

Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope, including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes and standards.

Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of PD&P engineers, specialists, designers, and drafters.

Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.

Facilitates technical discussions with third parties.

Prepares or oversees the preparation of PD&P design estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.

Develops Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs), and administrative practices.

Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work.

Reviews key PD&P engineering drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.

Coordinates assigned PD&P design work with other project groups.

Mentors PD&P designers and drafters by providing on-the-job training for their professional development.

Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes and standards.

Education and Experience Requirements

Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Must have the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.

Willingness to travel and/or relocate to jobsite in support of projects.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in respective role as a Plumbing Designer, with strong working knowledge of industrial plumbing systems and codes. Responsible for engineering-level designs and applicable code compliance.

Experience in plumbing system designs: domestic water systems (cold, hot, and recirculation), sanitary and vent systems, storm drainage, specialty systems (high-purity, acid waste, etc.), and natural gas piping systems (is a plus).

Familiarity with cGMP environments, clean utilities, or regulated facilities (pharmaceutical or life sciences).

Experience producing construction-ready deliverables with minimal supervision.

Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment layouts, and architectural drawings.

Strong coordination, communication, and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

– Licensed Plumbing Designer (LPD) who is legally authorized to design and seal/sign plumbing drawings; experience with large EPC projects and fast-track execution; proficiency with 3D modeling platforms (Revit, Plant 3D, or equivalent); knowledge of owner specifications, utility company requirements, and permitting processes; prior experience in planning and executing plumbing design systems in industrial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, or large commercial facilities; field experience or construction support is a plus.
