About the Role
The Company is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its mission-driven team. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted legal advisor and key partner across the organization's real estate development and operating platform. This role involves providing hands-on, business-facing legal support on a wide range of real estate transactions, commercial agreements, and corporate matters. The Senior Counsel will be responsible for leading and supporting real estate transactions, including drafting and negotiating core documents, and will also be involved in advising on legal risk and compliance. The ideal candidate should have a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, active membership in a U.S. State bar, and 8 to 12+ years of relevant legal experience, with a strong background in real estate transactions and commercial contracting.
The role requires a candidate with a strong legal background, including experience in a law firm and/or a sophisticated in-house legal environment. Familiarity with or an interest in working for a mission-driven non-profit organization is a plus, as is exposure to affordable housing and tax credit work. The Senior Counsel will be expected to manage multiple legal issues with sound judgment, prioritize effectively, and collaborate cross-functionally to support decision-making. The position is based in a hybrid work environment, with an expectation of 3-4 days in the office, and may involve some travel. The focus is on a candidate who can balance legal protection with practical, solutions-oriented execution, and who is adept at managing outside counsel cost-effectively.
