Qualifications

Job Goal To assist the Principal in the overall management of the school with a specific focus on student engagement, athletics, and activities. This role functions in a supervisory capacity to ensure that all extracurricular and athletic programs—and related academic departments—are aligned with district goals and promote student well‑being.
Performance Responsibilities Administrative
Assist in the selection and assignment of professional personnel
Coordinate the use of the building by professional and community groups
Compile necessary information into teacher and student handbooks
Represent school by attending local community functions and organizational meetings
Administer all middle and high school athletic and extracurricular programs in compliance with Board policy, IHSA, and IESA regulations
Prepare and administer the athletic and student activity budgets, including oversight of fundraising and ticket sales
Oversee facility safety inspections, event security, and the coordination of transportation for all student activities
Serve as a consultant to the Principal on long‑term goals for student engagement and represent the school at community and conference meetings
Collaborate and coordinate with the middle school athletic director and district fine arts director
In the principal's absence as required
Conduct meetings
Represent the school
Direct the affairs of the office
Make on‑the‑spot decisions
Other duties as needed and determined
Assist in the area of the curriculum process
Curriculum study committees
Formulation of new curricular programs
Implementation of curriculum
Evaluation of curriculum programs
Coordinate athletic and activity schedules to ensure equitable and efficient use of facilities and equipment
Manage the procurement and maintenance of athletic and physical education equipment
Student Related
Assist teachers with student behavior management and enforce academic eligibility requirements for all participants
Foster a climate that promotes sportsmanship, good citizenship, and student responsibility through programs such as Student Council or Student Cabinet
Maintain accurate administrative records, including student rosters and residency verification
Create and utilize a system to communicate student attendance and behavioral issues to coaches
Act as a liaison to parents and community groups to interpret school programs and address student‑athlete concerns
Arrange for parent conferences when needed
College Recruitment
Assist head coaches in advising students on college recruitment
Educate students and parents on the athletic recruitment process
Partner with guidance counselors in tracking student eligibility according to NCAA protocols
Monitor changes in NCAA requirements for student athletes
Director of Student Activities
Promote student responsibility by coordinating their efforts through special projects, such as student publications and student councils
Coordinate Student Advisory and Student Cabinet
Provide leadership, guidance, coordination, and supervision of high school extracurricular activities, ensuring they are carried out efficiently and effectively in accordance with established policies and procedures
Provide a well‑balanced activity program by keeping an up‑to‑date school calendar of events
Supervision of Students
Supervise various extracurricular activities
Generally supervise students throughout the school day
Conduct a program that keeps students informed of current and future events via daily announcements on the public address system and sign board
Coordinate taking of athletic and activity pictures and special publications
Staff-Related
Lead the recruitment, screening, and recommendation of qualified coaches and activity advisors
Supervise and evaluate certified and non‑certified staff, including teachers in assigned departments and all high school head coaches and club and activity advisors
Ensure all personnel meet district certification requirements and oversee daily staff assignments for student supervision
Coordinate professional improvement and mandated training for coaches
Assign teachers special responsibilities when necessary for proper student supervision
Assist teachers with student conduct and behavior problems (discipline)
Supervision of staff
Assist in the selection of teachers, coaches, athletics and events workers, and volunteers
Supervise and evaluate the teachers and coaches
Terms of Employment 12‑month contract. Salary to be established by the Board of Education. Range of $105,000 – $120,000 based on experience.
Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation.
