Landscape Designer/Architect

Overview Apex Companies is a growth‑focused consulting and engineering firm offering a full‑time Landscape Designer or Landscape Architect role in our Vancouver, Washington office. The position focuses on designing projects throughout Oregon and Washington, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and integrating ecological and native plant communities into the built environment. This role requires enthusiasm, self‑direction, innovation, and a passion for sustainable design.

Responsibilities

Assist the landscape architecture team with design, drawing production, and project management support.

Assist the team with complex projects from initial concept through completion.

Work effectively with multi‑disciplinary project teams.

Prepare effective planting designs and construction documents with minimal oversight.

Develop project‑specific construction details, considering budget and constructability.

Perform site analysis, product and plant research, and sourcing.

Integrate sustainable design and construction methodologies into work.

Maintain and help improve existing company standards, processes, and systems.

Contribute to proposals, presentations, and marketing efforts.

Qualifications

Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university.

Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a professional office.

Highly motivated, well‑organized team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong desire to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, biologists, planners and other specialists.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Land FX planting, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.

Proficient with Pacific Northwest plants, native and ornamental, and planting design.

Basic experience in building construction drawing packages.

Basic experience preparing project specifications and cost estimates.

Desirable Skills

Experience with WSDOT, PBOT, or ODOT standards, specifications, and processes, including preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) and design‑bid‑build delivery methods.

Knowledge of Central/Eastern Washington and Oregon planting design.

Knowledge of Rocky Mountain states’ planting design.

Knowledge of irrigation design.

Location The position is based in our Vancouver, Washington office. The team meets in office 3–4 days a week on average. We offer partial hybrid hours but encourage collaboration in person when possible.
