
Landscape Designer/Architect

Apex Companies is seeking a full‑time Landscape Designer or Landscape Architect to join our Portland, OR office.
The Apex landscape architecture team is a close‑knit group that collaborates on a wide range of projects primarily throughout Oregon and Washington. This role involves working with a diverse group of multidisciplinary professionals within a progressive national company. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, self‑starter, innovative, creative, comfortable receiving and providing feedback, embraces teamwork, and wants to make a positive impact. Broad interest in ecological design and the ability to integrate natural plant communities within the built environment are key.
Qualifications
Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a professional office.
Highly motivated, well‑organized team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong desire to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, biologists, planners and other practice area specialists to achieve project goals.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Land FX planting, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, SketchUp and Microsoft Office software.
Proficient with Pacific Northwest plants, native and ornamental, and planting design.
Basic experience in building construction drawing packages.
Basic experience in preparing project specifications and cost estimates.
Responsibilities
Assist the landscape architecture team in design, drawing production and project management support.
Assist the landscape architecture team with complex projects from initial concept through to completion.
Work effectively with multi‑disciplinary project teams.
Prepare effective planting designs and construction documents with minimal oversight and assistance.
Develop project‑specific construction details with an understanding of project budget and constructability.
Perform site analysis, product and plant research and sourcing.
Integrate sustainable design and construction methodologies into our work.
Maintain and assist in improving existing company standards, processes and systems.
Contribute to proposals, presentations, and marketing efforts.
Desirable Skills
Prior experience with WSDOT, PBOT, and/or ODOT standards, specifications, and processes, including preparation of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) and design‑bid‑build delivery methods.
Knowledge of Central/Eastern Washington and Oregon planting design.
Knowledge of Rocky Mountain states' planting design.
Knowledge of irrigation design.
Location The position will be based in our Vancouver, Washington office. The existing team overlaps in office 3‑4 days a week on average. We are flexible with partial hybrid hours but know that we are most effective when we can easily collaborate in person.
