Actuarial Senior Associate - P&C Reserving (Remote)

Actuarial Senior Associate – Reserving Located in Nationwide’s P&C Commercial Lines and NWAG organization, the General Liability and Umbrella Reserving team supports profitable growth and long‑term financial strength across the enterprise. The team establishes and monitors loss and loss‑adjustment‑expense reserves for General Liability and Umbrella products across multiple segments and distribution channels, including Nationwide Agribusiness (NWAG).

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, execution, and communication of reserve analyses for General Liability and Umbrella lines, including quarterly and ad hoc studies at the line, segment, and program levels.

Develop and apply advanced actuarial methodologies (e.g., stochastic reserving, frequency‑severity modeling, tail factor and trend analyses, diagnostic tools) to assess reserve adequacy and volatility.

Translate technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for leaders in Commercial Lines, NWAG, Claims, and Finance, highlighting key drivers, risks, and alternative scenarios.

Partner with Pricing, Underwriting, and Product teams to ensure strong connectivity between reserving insights, rate adequacy, and underwriting strategies for GL and Umbrella.

Act as a technical expert of actuarial methodologies, sourcing and manipulating data within standard requirements.

Conduct complex analyses, selecting appropriate data sources, making assumptions, and developing recommendations; resolve non‑optimal results using experience and judgment.

Accurately document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized format.

Prepare and present actuarial findings suitable for technical and non‑technical audiences at senior leadership levels.

Develop cross‑functional work plans and ensure accurate deliverables.

Lead peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality, and drive innovation.

Build business relationships and lead cross‑functional communication with team members, customers, and business partners.

Lead onboarding and training for new associates on standard work processes; assist in creating training materials.

Apply data mining techniques to identify new relationships in data and make recommendations based on findings; explore new software packages and propose use.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.

ACAS credential, with progress toward FCAS (near‑associate level candidates with relevant experience will be considered).

Strong knowledge of P&C actuarial reserving techniques (e.g., General Liability, Umbrella, Excess).

Demonstrated experience with triangular reserving methods.

Proficiency with actuarial and data tools (Excel, SQL, R, Python, SAS, or similar) and interest in automation, reproducibility, and visualization.

Experience working independently and influencing business decisions through insight.

Ability to document methods and assumptions clearly.
