Actuarial Senior Associate - Reserving

The General Liability and Umbrella Reserving team sits within Nationwide’s P&C Commercial Lines and NWAG organization and plays a critical role in supporting profitable growth and long‑term financial strength across the enterprise. This team is responsible for establishing and monitoring loss and loss adjustment expense reserves for General Liability and Umbrella products across multiple segments and distribution channels, including Nationwide Agribusiness (NWAG).
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, execution, and communication of reserve analyses for General Liability and Umbrella lines, including quarterly and ad hoc studies at the line, segment, and program levels.
Develop and apply advanced actuarial methodologies (e.g., stochastic reserving, frequency‑severity modeling, tail factor and trend analyses, diagnostic tools) to assess reserve adequacy and volatility.
Translate technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for leaders in Commercial Lines, NWAG, Claims, and Finance, highlighting key drivers, risks, and alternative scenarios.
Partner with Pricing, Underwriting, and Product teams to ensure strong connectivity between reserving insights, rate adequacy, and underwriting strategies for GL and Umbrella.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field.
ACAS credential, with progress toward FCAS (near‑associate level candidates with relevant experience will be taken into consideration).
Strong knowledge of P&C actuarial reserving techniques (e.g., General Liability, Umbrella, Excess).
Demonstrated experience with triangular reserving methods.
Proficiency with actuarial and data tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, R, Python, SAS, or similar) and an interest in automation, reproducibility, and visualization.
This role is ideal for an actuarial professional who enjoys deep technical work, influencing business decisions through insight, and working in a collaborative environment that spans the P&C enterprise.
This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.
This position can be staffed remotely for potential applicants with critical industry skills and relevant experience.
