Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Fleet Strategy and Sustainable Operations provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the university’s fleet, transit, and mobility programs while advancing institutional sustainability, decarbonization, and compliance goals. This position reports to the Director of University Services and plays a critical role in aligning fleet and transportation operations with university priorities related to climate action, accessibility, safety, equity, and responsible resource stewardship. The Assistant Director oversees fleet planning, vehicle lifecycle management, transit operations, regulatory compliance, and sustainability integration across transportation systems. Responsibilities include supporting implementation of Massachusetts Executive Order 594, fleet electrification initiatives, EV infrastructure expansion, and performance reporting related to greenhouse gas reduction and operational efficiency; budget development; vendor coordination; data‑driven planning; and cross‑divisional collaboration with Public Safety, Planning, Sustainability, and external agencies.

Essential Duties
In a fair and equitable manner, plan, coordinate, and oversee fleet, transit, and mobility operations; assign work activities; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; and collaborate with a diverse group of staff to identify and resolve operational and service challenges.
Provide strategic oversight of university fleet and transit systems, including vehicle utilization, lifecycle planning, replacement strategies, safety, readiness, and regulatory compliance.
Support implementation of sustainability and decarbonization initiatives related to fleet and transportation operations, including fleet electrification, EV infrastructure coordination, fuel reduction strategies, and performance tracking aligned with institutional climate goals and state mandates.
Oversee transit operations and safety programs, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, FTA, ADA, DPU, and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Assist in oversight of compliance with Brockton Area Transit, Massachusetts Department of Public Utility, and Commercial Driver Licensing requirements; ensure testing and training comply with applicable laws, rules, and mandates.
Establish schedules, service models, and operational plans for fleet and transit services; assess resource needs; coordinate with management staff; and allocate resources to ensure efficient, equitable, and reliable service delivery.
Operate university or university partner vehicles when necessary to support operational continuity and service needs.
Participate in the development and implementation of departmental and institutional goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommend and implement policies and procedures that enhance sustainability, inclusiveness, safety, and operational effectiveness.
Manage staffing and operational activities related to fleet and transit services, utilizing equity- and justice-centered practices to recruit, train, support, and evaluate a diverse workforce.
Coordinate and deliver training related to fleet operations, CDL requirements, safety programs, sustainability initiatives, and compliance standards, including DOT physicals and permit testing.
Participate in the development and administration of assigned program budgets; forecast funding needs; monitor expenditures; analyze trends; and recommend adjustments to support fiscal stewardship and strategic objectives.
Analyze, prepare, and make recommendations regarding technical specifications for vehicle procurement, fleet equipment, and related contracts in collaboration with operations leadership.
Coordinate post-accident fleet repair logistics in partnership with BSU Finance by providing required documentation and logistics details, facilitating access for inspections/appraisals, and managing repair workflows through completion to return vehicles to service.
Support communication of service updates, sustainability initiatives, and operational changes through appropriate platforms, ensuring information is accessible, inclusive, and timely.
Review and address issues or concerns from campus constituents and the public regarding fleet or transit operations, assisting in fair, timely, and effective resolution.
Provide staff support to operations leadership; participate on committees, task forces, and working groups; and prepare reports, data summaries, and correspondence as required.
Coordinate fleet and transit operations with other university divisions, student groups, and external agencies to support campus events, emergency preparedness, and regional partnerships.
Attend and participate in professional development and industry meetings; remain current on trends and best practices in fleet management, sustainable transportation, higher education operations, and equity-centered service delivery.
Perform related duties as needed to support continuity of fleet, transit, sustainability, university services, and division of operations objectives.
Required Qualifications
Commitment to customer service excellence and inclusive service delivery.
Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in fleet management, transportation operations, facilities, sustainability, or a related operational field.
Demonstrated experience analyzing operational, financial, or performance data to inform planning, decision‑making, and service improvements.
Experience preparing, presenting, and communicating information to a wide range of audiences, including student groups, departmental stakeholders, and senior leadership.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse campus constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
Experience supporting budget development, expenditure monitoring, forecasting, and fiscal stewardship for operational programs or services.
Managerial or supervisory experience, including oversight of staff or student employees.
Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable regulatory frameworks related to transportation, fleet operations, accessibility, or safety.
Strong written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to work extended hours and be on‑call as required by university operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education, campus operations, or public‑sector transportation or fleet services.
Experience developing dashboards, reports, or performance metrics related to operations, sustainability, or resource management.
Experience supporting sustainability initiatives, fleet electrification, climate compliance, or environmental performance reporting.
Demonstrated comfort facilitating meetings, leading presentations, or representing programs before committees, working groups, or leadership forums.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including data analysis and presentation development.
Familiarity with fleet management systems, asset tracking, or operational planning tools.
Master’s degree.
AED/CPR certification.
