Assistant Deli Manager Position Summary The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily deli department operations to ensure high standards of product quality, food safety, customer service, and inventory control. This role assists with department execution, associate support, and operational compliance while helping drive sales and maintain an efficient, well‑organized department.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service

Promote a friendly, service‑focused environment with fast and courteous customer assistance

Help customers with product selection, special orders, and preparation suggestions

Address customer questions or issues promptly and elevate when necessary

Department Operations

Assist with day‑to‑day deli operations including food preparation, slicing, cooking, packaging, and merchandising

Ensure department cleanliness, sanitation, and organized work areas throughout the deli, prep areas, coolers, and equipment

Support opening and closing procedures as assigned

Food Safety & Compliance

Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and handling standards

Enforce code dating, labeling, and rotation procedures to maintain freshness and regulatory compliance

Follow all local, state, federal, and company food safety requirements

Inventory & Ordering

Assist with inventory control to maintain proper product levels, freshness, and variety

Help with ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating deli products according to division guidelines

Minimize shrink through proper handling, rotation, markdowns, and waste control

Merchandising & Sales

Support execution of promotional, seasonal, and everyday deli displays

Ensure correct pricing, signage, and appealing presentation

Assist with monitoring sales trends and daily production needs

Associate Support & Leadership

Assist with scheduling, training, and supervising deli associates

Lead and support associates during assigned shifts in the absence of the Deli Manager

Coach associates on proper procedures, customer service expectations, and safety standards

Administrative & Operational Support

Assist with completing required department paperwork, logs, and reports

Support audits, inspections, and corrective actions

Implement emergency procedures during equipment or system malfunctions

Comply with company grooming, dress code, and conduct standards

Qualifications Required

Previous deli, food service, or grocery retail experience

Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices

Ability to work in hot and cold environments and stand for extended periods

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks

Strong customer service and communication skills

Preferred

Prior lead or supervisory experience in a deli or food service environment

Familiarity with inventory systems, ordering processes, and shrink control

Work Schedule & Environment

Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as required

Work performed in a deli/food production environment with exposure to heat, refrigeration, and food prep equipment
