Walters Recycling & Refuse is hiring a
Human Resources Specialist
to support the day-to-day needs of our employees and HR operations. This role will provide support in onboarding, offboarding, payroll, benefits, compliance, employee relations, HR systems, and administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities Onboarding & Offboarding
Coordinate new hire paperwork and onboarding activities according to checklist requirements
Support pre-employment steps including background checks, E-Verify, pre-hire drug screening, Human Performance Evaluations (HPE), and DOT physicals
Coordinate offboarding activities according to established procedures
Create new hire packets
Serve as a backup for new hire orientation
Benefits & Payroll Support
Assist employees with navigating the HRIS during Open Enrollment
Reconcile benefit invoices with HRIS employee benefit enrollment data
Distribute paystubs and W-2s
Employee Relations & HR Support
Assist employees with HR-related questions including uniforms, HRIS navigation, timeclock issues, and basic benefits questions
Refer more complex issues to the HR Generalist as appropriate
Support HR efforts related to conflict resolution, investigations, disciplinary meetings, and terminations as needed
Build trust and positive working relationships with employees across the organization
Help support employee engagement efforts such as birthday and anniversary recognition
Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities
Handle confidential documents with discretion and professionalism
Maintain employee files to ensure accuracy, compliance, confidentiality, and proper separation requirements
Assist with continuous improvement of HR processes and procedures
Participate in ongoing education related to employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices
Assist with employer notice postings and review of law changes affecting the organization
Technology & Training
Assist with optimization of HR technology
Provide support to the Training team as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Associate degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field required
1–2 years of HR specialist experience required
Intermediate computer skills
Strong attention to detail
Bachelor’s degree and/or SHRM or PHR certification preferred
