Overview
Mayer Brown is an international law firm that represents major corporations and financial institutions. The International Trade Paralegal role in our Washington, D.C. office focuses on global trade policies and remedies, supporting advocacy in negotiations and trade dispute proceedings.
Responsibilities
Trade Remedies & Litigation
Collaborate in drafting submissions for U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. International Trade Commission in antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings.
Draft submissions before U.S. Trade Representative, U.S. Court of International Trade and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Conduct internal investigations and draft voluntary disclosures to government enforcement authorities (US Customs, US Department of Commerce, etc.).
Research & Analysis
Perform trade research and analysis, including reviewing import data, trade trends and market statistics to aid attorneys in advising clients.
Support due diligence related to export controls and sanctions compliance in mergers and acquisitions.
Client Relations & Business Development
Work with clients on ongoing trade matters.
Prepare business proposals for future clients.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet firm goals.
Qualifications Education/Training/Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Professional Experience:
1–3 years of experience in international trade, specifically antidumping and countervailing duty and other trade remedy proceedings.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Westlaw, Lexis, and PACER.
Performance Traits:
Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective at all levels of the firm and with outside vendors.
Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel proficiency.
Ability to work in a diverse team and support demanding firm needs.
Work under pressure, meet shifting deadlines.
Self‑starter with initiative.
Customer‑service orientation; anticipates needs and exercises independent judgment.
Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects.
Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
Strategic thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
May require occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
May require travel to other offices (optional).
The typical pay scale for this position is between $51,000 and $68,000; actual wage may vary based on education, experience and internal alignment.
