Lead Specialist, Product Management

Pearson, Baton Rouge, LA, United States

Role Title: Lead Specialist, Product Management

Description: This role aligns to a Principal Product Manager

Location: Hoboken - Hybrid

We embrace the SVPG Product Operating Model by empowering our product teams to solve hard problems – customer problems and business problems – in ways that our customers love yet work for our business. Our product teams are cross-functional, durable and generally comprised of a product manager, product design, tech lead and a program manager (4-in-a-box model).

We staff our product teams with the skills necessary to come up with effective solutions that are valuable, viable, usable and feasible.

While the product designer is accountable for ensuring the solution is usable, and the engineers are accountable for ensuring the solution is feasible, the product manager is accountable for ensuring the solution is both valuable and viable.

As an individual contributor, the product manager must contribute a solid knowledge of the various constraints of the business such as from marketing, sales, support, finance, legal and privacy, a deep knowledge of our users and customers, data about how our customers engage with our products, and track industry trends and the competitive landscape.

Product managers must collaborate closely with the product designer and engineers to discover effective solutions and then work together to deliver those solutions to market.

We empower product teams to figure out the best solutions but hold them accountable to results. Shipping is necessary but not sufficient. Product managers must be able to influence teammates, stakeholders and executives through data and logic.

Necessary Qualifications

Proven track record over multiple years as an individual contributor product manager responsible for value and viability of solutions

Proven ability to go deep and quickly learn new domains, as well as solid understanding of all major parts of the business

Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery

Demonstrated ability to learn multiple functional areas of business – engineering, design, finance, sales, or marketing

Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks, and to lay out your argument in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative

Proven ability to engage with both individual contributors and leaders of all levels in constructive and collaborative relationships

Responsible for assisting with quarterly strategic planning, defining OKRs and developing a roadmap

Proven ability to own a strategic pillar, and develop and get buy-in for a product strategy based on that pillar

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. The minimum full-time salary range is between $165,000 - $185,000.

This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here.
