Overview The Division of Family and Child Health at the Department of Health has an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional interested in public health communication. We are looking for a well-organized person skilled at communicating clearly who wants to help provide the tools that make Vermont families thrive. The Division includes programs covering topics such as injury and violence prevention, suicide prevention, road user safety, safe sleep, perinatal and early childhood programs, sexual and reproductive health, and more. This position will support the division's communication work in managing educational materials, graphic design, coordinating social media and website updates and analytics, and supporting public health emergency response. The position reports to the Family and Child Health Information Director. The State of Vermont requires in‑office work in Waterbury three days per week with two days of teleworking available.

Responsibilities

Assist in the management of public outreach, social media, and digital campaigns with the goal of affecting behavior change and improving health outcomes.

Assist in creating, producing, translating, and managing the distribution of public information materials.

Write and update content on the Health Department website.

Collaborate with program staff to distill complex and technical information into material Vermont residents can use to stay healthy and safe.

Serve in a variety of communication capacities during public health events and emergencies.

Support and assist in the development of specific grant-related or required activities as assigned.

AHS Background Checks Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Environmental Factors Duties are performed in both office and field settings. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required. Stress may be encountered from tight deadlines and public information decisions.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma and four (4) years of relevant experience in public health communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, or a closely related field.

OR

Associate’s degree in public health, journalism, communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, education or related field and three (3) years or more of experience at a professional level in marketing, advertising, communications, or public relations.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in public health, journalism, communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, education or related field and two (2) years or more of professional experience in marketing, advertising, communications, or public relations.

OR

Master’s degree in public health, journalism, communication, marketing, advertising, public relations, education or related field and one (1) year or more of professional experience in marketing, advertising, communications, or public relations.

Special Requirements Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
