Communications Coordinator II

Overview The Division of Family and Child Health at the Department of Health has an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional interested in public health communication. We seek a well‑organized, clear communicator who will help provide tools that make Vermont families thrive. The division oversees numerous programs—injury and violence prevention; youth and adult suicide; road user safety; safe sleep; perinatal and early childhood programs such as home visiting and WIC; sexual and reproductive health; children with special health needs; and more. This position supports the division’s communication work, including managing educational materials, graphic design, coordinating social media and website updates and analytics, and supporting public health emergency responses. The role reports to the Family and Child Health Information Director. Employees are required to work in the Waterbury office three days per week, with two teleworking days available.

Examples of Work

Assist in the management of public outreach, social media, and digital campaigns to affect behavior change and improve health outcomes.

Assist in creating, producing, translating, and distributing public information materials.

Write and update content on the Health Department website.

Collaborate with program staff to distill complex, technical information into usable public guidance.

Serve in various communication capacities during public health events and emergencies.

Support and assist with grant‑related activities as assigned.

Environmental Factors Duties are performed in office and field settings; some work outside normal hours may be required. Stress may arise from tight deadlines, conflicting opinions, and public communication decisions.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma AND four (4) years of relevant experience in public health communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, or a closely related field.

OR Associate’s degree in public health, journalism, communications, marketing, advertisement, public relations, education, or a closely related field AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in marketing, advertisement, communications, or public relations.

OR Bachelor’s degree in public health, journalism, communications, marketing, advertisement, public relations, education, or a closely related field AND two (2) years or more of professional experience at a professional level in marketing, advertisement, communications, or public relations.

OR Master’s degree in public health, journalism, communication, marketing, advertisement, public relations, education, or a closely related field AND one (1) year or more of professional experience at a professional level in marketing, advertisement, communications, or public relations.
