Technical Writer (Consultant, Experience & Design)
Fearless is seeking a Technical Writer to support a large-scale federal workforce training and learning management program. This role is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation that supports system functionality, training delivery, and operational processes across a national platform.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system guides, user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge base articles.
Translate complex technical and functional information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and subject matter experts to gather and validate documentation requirements.
Support the development of training materials in coordination with instructional design teams, ensuring alignment between system functionality and training content.
Create and maintain documentation for LMS features, workflows, integrations, and reporting capabilities.
Ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with system changes and enhancements.
Organize and manage documentation repositories to ensure accessibility and version control.
Support user adoption by developing FAQs, quick reference guides, and support materials.
Participate in Agile processes, including sprint reviews and backlog refinement, to stay aligned with system updates.
Ensure documentation complies with federal standards, including accessibility requirements where applicable.
Assist in documenting processes related to system operations, help desk procedures, and training delivery.
Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation standards, templates, and practices.
Ensure compliance with CMS formatting guidelines, accessibility in documentation, and version control with GitHub repositories.
Place of Performance & Travel Requirements
Primarily remote; occasional in-person customer meetings at the client’s headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland.
Attend approximately three in-person events annually within the greater Baltimore metropolitan area; events range from one to five days in length and require full on-site participation.
Experience & Qualification Requirements
Minimum of 7 years of experience in technical writing, documentation development, or related roles in enterprise or federal environments.
Proven experience developing technical documentation for software systems, web-based applications, or enterprise platforms.
Experience translating complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly content for diverse audiences.
Experience supporting training materials, user guides, or instructional content development is highly desirable.
Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or training platforms is preferred.
Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity across documentation.
Experience using documentation tools and platforms (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, or similar) is preferred.
Familiarity with version control and documentation lifecycle management practices is desirable.
Experience supporting federal clients and working within compliance-driven environments is highly desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, Information Systems, or related field is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance.

Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).
