Job Description Newton Christian School Preschool Director REPORTS TO: Principal/Head of School
Position Summary The Preschool Director ensures that the mission, vision, and values of Newton Christian School are executed with excellence for preschool children and their families. The Director provides leadership, oversight, and direction to the preschool program, fostering a Christ-centered environment that supports spiritual, academic, and social development while ensuring full compliance with Iowa Health and Human Services (HHS) regulations and the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program (SWVPP), if it becomes applicable.
The Preschool Director is directly involved with quantifying the cost of operating the program. The director will apply for appropriate grants that help support the preschool program. The Director also recommends annual tuition rates by evaluating operating costs, enrollment trends, and local market conditions, balancing program sustainability with family affordability.
1. Spiritual Leadership and School Culture The Preschool Director serves as a Christian role model and provides spiritual leadership for students, families and staff.

2. Leadership and Commitment to Students and Staff
Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for the preschool program in alignment with Newton Christian School’s mission and student outcomes.
Ensure a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered learning environment for all students.
Oversee curriculum implementation using developmentally appropriate practices.
Support teachers in establishing classroom environments of love, care, and respect rooted in God’s Word.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate preschool staff, providing coaching and professional development.
Promote unity, collaboration, and effective teamwork among staff.
Ensure each child’s spiritual, academic, social, and emotional development is supported.
Lead enrollment efforts, classroom placement, and program growth initiatives.
3. Licensing and Compliance Responsibilities (Iowa HHS)
Ensure the preschool program operates in full compliance with all Iowa Health and Human Services (HHS) child care licensing regulations.
Maintain required staff‑to‑child ratios at all times.
Ensure all staff meet qualifications, complete background checks, and maintain required training through the Iowa training registry.
Maintain all required child and staff records, including attendance, health records, and emergency information.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and supervision standards.
Oversee and track required staff training, including:
Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training
Universal Precautions Training
CPR and First Aid Certification
Ensure all staff complete required annual professional development hours.
Prepare for and lead licensing visits, audits, and inspections.
Report incidents in accordance with Iowa HHS guidelines.
Ensure compliance with the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program (SWVPP), if it becomes applicable.
4. Qualifications Required Qualifications
A passionate follower of Jesus Christ who loves children and is committed to Christian education.
Demonstrates a desire to lead an educational program grounded in a Biblical worldview.
Meets all qualifications for Preschool Director as required by Iowa HHS.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related field required.
Experience
Minimum of three years of experience in a preschool or early childhood setting preferred.
Experience with Iowa licensing standards and compliance procedures preferred.

Strong leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

5. Physical Requirements

The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
The ability to see and respond to potentially dangerous situations.
The ability to stand for extended periods of time.
The ability to sit and/or kneel on the floor and stand back up with ease.
6. Additional Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of the preschool program.
Ensure proper maintenance of classrooms, materials, and equipment.
Lead staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
Coordinate and oversee parent events and preschool programs.
Develop staff schedules to maintain proper ratios and coverage.
Collaborate with the Principal on program development, evaluation, and improvement.
Participate in school‑wide leadership and planning.
Ensure all preschool staff meet required Iowa training hours annually.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
7. Communication
Maintain clear and consistent communication with preschool staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for families.
Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, emails, conferences, and meetings.
Serve as the primary point of contact for preschool families.
Build and maintain positive relationships with families, staff, licensing authorities, and community partners.
Communicate effectively with the Principal regarding program needs, updates, and concerns.
Address and resolve concerns from staff and families in a timely and professional manner.
8. Spiritual Requirements
