Job Description The Penobscot Bay YMCA is seeking a dynamic, people-centered leader to guide and grow our Health & Wellness programs across our Rockport and Rockland branches. We’re looking for a leader who is equally comfortable setting direction and jumping in alongside their team—someone who leads from the floor, builds relationships, and takes pride in creating a positive and engaging environment.

Qualifications What You’ll Do

Lead and grow health & wellness programs for all ages and abilities

Supervise, support, and inspire instructors, trainers, and volunteers

Lead from the floor by teaching group fitness classes and/or providing personal training as needed

Ensure safe, welcoming, and well-maintained wellness spaces and equipment

Oversee scheduling, payroll, budgeting, and program registration (Daxko)

Monitor participation and evolve programming based on member feedback and community needs

Serve as a key point of contact for the Rockland Harbor branch

Support YMCA events and community engagement initiatives

Collaborate across departments to deliver a consistent, mission-driven member experience

Essential Functions

Ensure all health & wellness programs operate in compliance with YMCA policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations

Maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning wellness environment across both branches

Monitor program performance, participation, and member feedback to support continuous improvement

Respond appropriately to member concerns, incidents, and emergency situations

Ensure accurate program setup, registration, and reporting within Daxko

Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of wellness staff

Lead and support staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development

Maintain accurate records related to programming, staffing, and operations

Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for members, staff, and the community

Support branch operations, events, and cross-department initiatives as needed

Perform additional duties as required to support the success of the department and organization

Cause-Driven Leadership Competencies

Required Certifications

CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within a reasonable timeframe after hire

Relevant group fitness and/or personal training certifications are encouraged and may be required depending on programming needs

YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training required (completed during onboarding)

Training and support are provided to help you obtain and maintain required certifications.
