
Communications Strategist

Job Summary
The holder of this position will work closely with the university’s Communications and Marketing (DCM) team to maintain a positive public image, promote college programs, publicize student and faculty achievements, and manage a variety of digital and print communications for the college.
Responsibilities
Event Management: plan, organize, and execute college events; create promotional content; provide post‑event coverage to relevant constituencies.
Newsletters & Electronic Communications: design and publish print and digital issues of the college newsletters and annual report using provided templates and DCM tools (Poppulo, Emma/Marigold, listservs, etc.); distribute newsletters and surveys electronically; meet all content deadlines.
Communications & Marketing Strategy and Planning: attend college and departmental meetings; maintain situational awareness of college priorities; develop and present effective communication strategies to the dean and leadership team; schedule and conduct communication meetings.
Content Development and Management: serve as primary contact for subject‑matter experts; capture, draft, edit, and produce content for the college website, Jagwire, newsletters, webpages, and social media; coordinate photography and videography; maintain a digital library of testimonials and news items; collaborate with DCM specialists, editors, designers, and media.
Website Management: review website content regularly, update as needed, implement improvements in partnership with technology staff, and ensure compliance with web governance; check for broken links and correct errors.
Social Media Management: curate and schedule content for social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.); monitor online presence and reputation; recommend enhancements.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field and a minimum of three years of direct communications/marketing experience.
Preferred: Master’s degree in marketing, public relations, strategic communications, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and common computer software/databases.
Knowledge of office procedures, databases, operating systems, spreadsheets, and advanced video/photography/graphic‑design techniques.
Comfortable with learning and using content‑management systems and familiar with Google Analytics.
Experience planning and implementing marketing, public‑relations, or communications campaigns.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, creativity, story‑telling, verbal and written communication, interpersonal and collaboration abilities.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Acrobat Pro), HTML/CSS, and social‑media platforms.
Strong customer‑service orientation, project‑management skills, confidentiality, analytical ability, independence, high professionalism, ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure.
Familiarity with DCM policies, AU web governance, AU brand guidelines, AU expert database, and corresponding standard tools and software.
Shift / Salary / Benefits Shift: Days M–F (outside normal business hours may be required).
Pay Band: B10.
Minimum salary $52,500 annually; midpoint $54,080.

Full‑time employees tenured beyond six months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
