WesTech seeks a motivated Electrical Designer I to assist in the design, layout, and documentation of electrical systems for municipal and industrial water treatment projects.
In this learning‑focused role, the candidate will work with senior designers and engineers to produce electrical drawings and schematics in compliance with industry codes and regulations. The position requires close supervision and offers a supportive environment for skill development.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in designing and developing electrical systems, including control panels, power distribution, and low‑voltage systems.
Prepare electrical schematics, single‑line diagrams, and layout drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical or similar).
Support engineers in performing calculations for branch circuit protection, conductor sizing, and related tasks.
Collaborate with mechanical, process, and structural disciplines to integrate electrical designs into overall project plans.
Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEC, IEEE, UL, CSA).
Maintain project documentation, including specifications, equipment schedules, and design changes.
Participate in design review meetings and site visits as needed.
Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and assist with cost estimates.
Stay updated on the latest electrical design technologies and industry trends.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
Basic knowledge of AC and DC power and control circuits.
Understanding of electrical codes and industry standards (NFPA, NEC, UL508A).
Ability to read and understand technical specifications.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to follow detailed technical instructions.
Proficiency in maintaining records and drawings.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).
High school diploma and 0–1 year of related experience, or an associate’s degree in Electrical Design or Electrical Engineering with no prior experience.
Physical Requirements
Work at a desk computer/phone system.
Some lifting up to 50 lbs.
May be required to be clean‑shaven for proper respiratory equipment.
May require collaboration with engineers, project managers, and contractors.
Some travel may be required depending on project needs.
