Overview
Electrical Designer – Substation : Design the Infrastructure Powering the Midwest’s Clean Energy Future. We’re looking for a motivated Electrical Designer – Substation to join our close-knit, collaborative team. Our company supports a steady portfolio of utility and energy clients across the Midwest, delivering projects in
renewable energy, grid modernization, substations, and battery storage . This is an exciting opportunity to work on
greenfield substations for solar and wind farms
while growing your technical skills in a supportive, family-oriented environment. Our team operates in a flexible hybrid setting, with the option for remote work for designers who bring strong AutoCAD skills and a passion for quality design.
Responsibilities
Perform physical 3D substation design using Inventor, including drawing sets, equipment layouts, and elevation/section views
Develop 2D substation layouts, schedules, and material tables using AutoCAD
Assist with steel weight checks and detailed design coordination
Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project managers in a team‑first environment
Communicate professionally with utility clients and coordinate directly with civil vendors via phone and email
Support renewable energy infrastructure, including solar, wind, battery storage, and transformer projects
Participate in a long‑term, contract‑to‑hire role focused on building real design expertise—not just redlines
What We’re Looking For
2+ years of recent AutoCAD experience in a professional setting
Strong interest in substation and power delivery design
Willingness to learn and grow in Inventor (3D)
Ability to work collaboratively while also taking ownership of your design tasks
Clear communication skills and a detail‑oriented mindset
Preferred Experience (Nice To Have)
Exposure to substations, renewables (solar/wind), power delivery, or battery storage
Experience with both 3D and 2D design workflows
Familiarity with iLogic and electrical schematics
Drafting or design‑related degree
Experience with MicroStation, Civil 3D, or Inventor
