Where You’ll Work This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office. We leverage a hybrid working model working three days in the office, two days optional remote work.

What You’ll Do The Communications Specialist supports organization-wide communications efforts by creating clear, engaging content and coordinating delivery across internal and external channels. This role is involved in the creative process, contributing ideas, and problem-solving abilities to produce and edit content for digital formats. The Communications Specialist works across the organization to provide support such as writing, editing, communications planning, and project management.

Plan, write, edit, and publish internal communications across channels such as email updates, intranet posts, talking points, FAQs, leadership messages, and internal newsletters.

Translate organizational initiatives, operational updates, policy changes, and program launches into employee-friendly, action-oriented communications.

Support internal communications needs during sensitive, urgent, or high-change periods, providing communication toolkits to help leaders and managers cascade messages.

Identify internal communication gaps and opportunities; gather feedback and use basic metrics to refine messaging and improve reach.

Write, edit, proofread, and optimize content for digital and print formats; provide communications support for events and campaigns as needed while ensuring editorial quality and consistency across deliverables.

Contribute to communications planning and content ideation; recommend formats, headlines, and storytelling approaches that improve engagement.

Assist CHA staff with designing PowerPoint presentations as needed.

Manage multiple assignments simultaneously using clear timelines, stakeholder coordination, and structured reviews/approvals.

Experience and Skills Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field required.

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in communications, content development, internal communications, or similar.

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to tailor tone and structure for different audiences and channels.

Familiarity with Associated Press style preferred.

Ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable messages.

Self-starter; can-do attitude with strong attention to deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, content management systems, and project management systems.

About CHA This pay range shown is a guideline. Min: $69,000 Max: $119,000 Compensation is based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
