$26.57 - $39.86 hourly ($55,273 - $82,909 annually). This position is a Pay Band C7. About the Program
The New Mexico WIC Program, Department of Health and Family Health bureau safeguards the health of nutritionally at‑risk low‑income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, children and seniors by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, nutrition information for health eating, health counseling, breastfeeding support, nutrition classes, cooking classes, and referrals to health care providers and social services. Responsibilities
Screen applicants to determine eligibility by assessing income, residency, and nutritional risk; prescribe food packages. Provide group and one‑on‑one nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support responsive to participants’ needs. Identify high‑risk participants and implement individual care plans. Refer participants to other health and social services; provide follow‑up to referrals. Document nutrition services provided, including referral and follow‑up. Support program operations by meeting caseload goals, performing clinic duties, traveling to clinics and outreach, and offering customer service to applicants/participants. Conduct intake/certification processes, including observation forms and health assessments of breastfeeding women/infants. Facilitate nutrition education classes using "Facilitators of Change" – Participant Centered Services (PCS) design. Carry out clinical nutrition assessments and/or prescribe food packages as needed. Qualified pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to the age of five (5) years. Ideal Candidate
Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish. Commitment to the New Mexico WIC Mission. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Cultural competence and organizational skills to efficiently manage participant files, documents and clinic schedules. Problem‑solving skills to identify nutritional issues and develop effective strategies. Proficient technical skills using the WIC specific computer system and MyWIC apps. Willingness to stay updated on nutrition research and incorporate new knowledge into daily practice. Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in a social, community, health, education or nutrition field and two (2) years of experience relevant to the essential duties; or six (6) years of related education and experience may substitute for the required degree. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or obtain one as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions
Office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Extended periods of driving and ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, moderate office noise, heat, cold, and smells. May be required to respond to public health emergencies during non‑traditional work hours. Some travel with occasional overnight stay may be required. Bargaining Unit Position
