Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Director is responsible for but not limited to: manages program operation, development and growth, participant satisfaction, member and staff retention and safety, staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching. As a Sports Director at the Y, you lead an environment that is inviting and serves all.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent is preferred.
Certified CPR/First Aid/AED within designated time of hire.
Minimum 2 years related experience required.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Organized and detail oriented.
Adept computer skills in Office 365.
Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend, and holidays.
Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
Essential Functions
Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of relative program equipment. Secures and schedules program facilities.
Ensures the implementation of the Risk Management program to ensure safe facilities and programs for members, volunteers and staff.
Work with leadership to set operational and performance goals for assigned staff, which are aligned with long term goals and strategies of the association.
Develop, coordinate, market and evaluate all program offerings and services.
Develop annual budget for portfolio. Monitor monthly financial reports to ensure that revenue targets are met, and expenses are controlled. Adjust programs accordingly.
Lead key elements of annual campaign as assigned towards increasing goals to support community services and the mission of the Y.
Models relationship-building skills, including Listen First, in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
Assists with cabinet meetings. Ensure that staff meetings are productive and high functioning.
Continually communicate with and inform staff about YMCA initiates and trends.
Performs other duties as assigned.
