LTE Parks and Recreation Specialist (Madison)

Position Summary The Wisconsin DNR is hiring a Limited Term Employee (LTE) Parks and Recreation Specialist in Madison, WI. This role supports the Bureau of Park and Recreation Management in project coordination, property operations, meeting coordination, vendor management, communication development, special events, and other assignments as required. Travel to out‑of‑town and occasional overnight stays may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative support (30%): Assist in property operations, print requests, website review, project requests, map editing, communication project management, and office coordination.

Meetings & calendar management (20%): Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, arrange travel and lodging, provide meeting supplies, and communicate minutes.

Customer service (20%): Respond to telephone, written, and email inquiries about Wisconsin State Parks; explain programs and policies; apply regulations and statutory requirements; serve as primary contact for customer needs.

Program initiatives (20%): Support special projects, program development, and outreach events such as Canoecopia, Horse Fair, State Fair, and others.

Other duties (10%): Perform additional tasks as directed by the Bureau of Parks and Recreation Management.

Salary and Status This position offers $22.00 per hour and is listed in pay schedule 15-04. It is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and does not automatically lead to permanent state employment or provide the same benefits as permanent employees.

Possibility to hold multiple LTE appointments concurrently at the same agency, subject to bona fide distinct positions and a maximum of 1,039 hours per year.

Special Requirements

Residency: Must be a resident of Wisconsin.

Background checks: Criminal background checks performed prior to job offer.

Work authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship available.

Qualifications

Solid communication skills, including writing and editing.

Strong project management ability.

Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, budgeting, financial, and related software experience.

Computer proficiency for compiling data and tracking information.

Driving qualifications: Valid driver’s license, at least 18 years of age, minimum two years licensed driving experience, no more than three moving violations or at‑fault accidents in the past two years, and no OWI/DUI violations within the past year.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience with Parks and Recreation management principles.
