Representative Payee Specialist Community Bridges is a non‑profit agency founded in 1982 that seeks a full‑time Representative Payee Specialist. The role establishes, maintains, and monitors Social Security Benefits for representative payee consumers. The specialist pays client expenses as needed, reconciles consumer accounts, and responds to Social Security Administration inquiries.

Qualifications

Education: Associate’s Degree in Human Services or a related field, or 2–4 years of client benefit administration experience.

Experience: At least 2 years of client benefit administration in social services, basic accounting reconciliation, billing, and payment management.

Knowledge of Social Security Administration benefit rules.

Understanding of basic accounting principles.

Must maintain confidentiality.

Excellent interpersonal, customer‑service, and verbal & written communication skills.

Accurate, detail‑oriented, and organized.

Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate information.

Proficient with MS Office 2013 suite.

Working knowledge of Great Plains accounting software.

Compensation and Benefits $1,000 sign‑on bonus ($500 paid at hire and $500 after 6 months for new hires only). 22 days of paid time off for a full‑time employee, increasing over years with no waiting period. Medical, dental, vision, 403(b) with 1% company match, life insurance, employer‑paid short‑term disability, and employer‑paid life insurance. Mileage reimbursement for approved mileage. Paid training at regular pay rate.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Manage all client representative payee accounts following SSA rules and regulations.

Work with Case Management and Benefits Specialists to provide support and resources related to SSA benefits.

Complete Social Security forms (SSI applications) and attend SSI application interviews as needed.

Coordinate cash management of the client account.

Notify case managers of current rep payee budgets and required actions.

Prepare and update budgets as benefits and needs change.

Monitor balances to prevent over‑resourcing of clients.

Send yearly contracts, client agreements, and current year budgets.

Issue non‑compliance notifications and notices of termination of services.

Develop and maintain contacts with appropriate professionals at Social Security.

Orient new case managers on agency representative payee responsibilities.

Act as a resource to case managers, individuals, and families.

Complete annual Social Security audit and report on use and management of benefits.

Enter payables, process checks and EFTs for Rep Payee payments.

Send remittances to vendors.

Maintain internal controls for payments, voids, and refunds.

Research and resolve stale checks issued from the Rep Payee account.

Log receipts that need to be collected for check requests.

Report DHHS grant remittances to the Medicaid Billing Specialist.

Run monthly spend‑down reports.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Must complete accurate work and meet tight deadlines.

Ability to independently manage multiple tasks.

Knowledge of Community Bridges mission, values, policy, and procedures.

Working knowledge of Great Plains accounting software.

Proficiency with MS Office 2013 suite.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Maintain a positive and professional demeanor in a busy program environment.

Manage occasional high‑stress periods and tight deadlines; flexibility required.

Physical demands: sit or stand at a workstation.

Travel Limited travel is required.
