JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS The Recovery Outreach Specialist is the first point of contact for clients and community partners, ensuring a smooth and supportive admission experience. The role also supports census development by identifying community needs, strengthening referral networks, and promoting program services to key stakeholders. It is goal-driven with a sales focus, requiring skills such as inspiring trust, building strong relationships, and consistently following up.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience in community outreach, marketing, business development, referral management, or relationship management.
Experience in behavioral health, addiction recovery, or healthcare services.
Strong communication, professionalism, and networking skills with the ability to build trust and lasting partnerships.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
Compassion toward people living with behavioral health and substance use issues, Hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS, and the ability to convey respect to target populations and community partners.
Ability to learn and apply Volunteers of America’s personnel and program policies and procedures.
Driver’s license preferred; own vehicle required for transportation. This position is primarily community‑based and involves regular travel to partner organizations, meetings, and community events.
RESPONSIBILITIES Community Outreach & Business Development
Maintain and persistently develop relationships with community partners—including hospitals, courts, probation and parole, legal professionals, social service agencies, and healthcare providers—to promote admissions.
Represent VOA professionally at referral‑generating activities such as outreach visits, presentations, and meetings to educate partners about addiction recovery services. Promote services through networking, community engagement, and marketing initiatives.
Maintain persistent follow‑up with community partners to strengthen relationships and generate qualified leads.
Referral Management & Intake Coordination
Complete referral screenings, verify insurance, and schedule admission appointments.
Coordinate services with referral agencies to assist clients who have specific treatment needs not addressed by VOA Mid‑States.
Collaborate with admissions and clinical teams to ensure smooth referral coordination and timely access to services.
Census Development & Program Growth
Contribute to census development through strategic outreach by monitoring referral trends, assessing community needs, and using data.
Work proactively, persistently, and effectively with community partners to optimize outreach efforts and ensure admissions.
Develop and maintain strategies to meet short‑ and long‑term program census goals.
