Position Summary Administer all aspects of Worker’s Compensation and leave management for a self‑insured university, including accident reporting, liability determination, medical treatment monitoring, benefit payment, policy development, training, and program oversight, while coordinating return‑to‑work programs and communicating with employees, medical providers, and external agencies.

Responsibilities

Write and implement policies for the return‑to‑work program.

Coordinate the return‑to‑work program with departmental supervisors and appropriate university departments.

Conduct Worker’s Compensation training.

Interpret applicable policies, general statutes, court rulings, review, and assist in the preparation of written correspondence such as interrogatories.

Process claims.

Prepare all regulatory reports required of Workers’ Compensation programs.

Manage the Family Medical Leave and Voluntary Shared Leave programs of the university and handle all return‑to‑work certifications.

Monitor and track all leave taken under Family Medical Leave, including intermittent medical leave.

Manage the Disability Income Plan of NC and determine employee eligibility to participate in these plans.

Communicate with employees, doctors, and providers to receive and evaluate monthly medical certifications, prepare monthly pay, and transmit to payroll for individuals approved for STD benefits.

Complete and submit all regulatory reports associated with these leave programs.

Provide guidance to employees and supervisors during leave absences and consult with employees and supervisors when re‑entering the workforce after leave entitlements have been exhausted or return‑to‑work certifications have been obtained.

Eligibility Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. All candidates must be eligible to work and live in the U.S.

Qualifications

Graduation from a four‑year college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Knowledge of North Carolina Workers’ Compensation laws, Federal Medical Leave Act laws, and the North Carolina Voluntary Shared Leave Program.

Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate positively with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to articulate and collect witness statements and evaluate medical information as it relates to all state‑approved leave programs such as Workers’ Comp, Family Medical Leave, Disability, and Shared Leave.

Excellent customer service skills and high confidentiality at all times.

Program knowledge of an efficient Worker’s Compensation program.

Ability to meet strict deadlines and file claims efficiently.

Proficient in collecting witness statements, evaluating medical information, and preparing required documentation.

Physical Demands of Position Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting, walking and standing and any other exertion used in general office functions.

Compensation Salary Range: $45,230 – $51,026 (Pay commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity, and market considerations).
