Job Summary and Purpose The Assistant Athletic Director will assist the Athletic Director in providing direction and coordination of activities and athletic programs at the high school level.
Work Objectives / Essential Functions
Ensures compliance with the rules of the Virginia High School League and the Regional and District councils.
Plans, organizes, and schedules athletic programs; supervises and prepares athletic game fields; oversees game management and coordinates with game officials for all athletic events.
Attends County, District, Regional, and State meetings to promote positive public relations.
Secures practice facilities and transportation for away events; orients coaches in executing their responsibilities.
Serves on special committees and attends work sessions to improve the athletic program.
Supervises coaches and sponsors in co‑curricular activities and clubs; inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies; coordinates fundraising activities; evaluates athletic programs.
Promotes sportsmanship and equity across all programs; facilitates parent meetings; updates social media to promote programs.
Supervises game‑management operations to ensure safe, organized, and positive experiences for student‑athletes, staff, and spectators.
Leads sessions focused on leadership and character development for student‑athletes.
Education and Experience
Education Attainment (Required):
Bachelor’s Degree
Relevant Experience (Required):
Experience as a teacher, administrator, athletic director, or equivalent.
Relevant Experience (Preferred):
Coaching experience at the secondary level.
Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required):
Hold or be eligible for a teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education.
Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Possess leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with athletes, coaches, students, school administrators, staff, parents, and the community.
