Job Overview
Position located On‑Site at VCUHS – Gateway Building in Richmond, VA. Salary $18.65 – $20.50 per hour based on experience. The role involves interviewing uninsured/under‑insured patients to determine eligibility for state Medicaid benefits or financial assistance programs and managing application processes.
Essential Job Functions
Reviewing referred uninsured/under‑insured patients for program eligibility.
Initiating and coordinating the application process for appropriate submissions.
Communicating with patients to obtain necessary documents.
Following submitted applications to determination, updating insurance information, and ensuring timely billing or adjustments.
Documenting actions and communications in assigned patient accounting systems.
Maintaining knowledge of state and federal program requirements and sharing information.
Developing and maintaining proactive relationships with county/state/federal Medicaid caseworkers and collaborating with other revenue cycle departments.
Other job duties as assigned.
Employment Qualifications
1–2 years of experience in healthcare industry interacting with patients about hospital financial issues.
Understanding of revenue cycle, patient insurance processes, and medical terminology or CPT procedures.
Experience with patient access or call center preferred.
Inquisitive and openness to innovation, including AI.
Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED. A combination of post‑secondary education and experience may be considered.
Certifications CRCR required within 9 months of hire.
