Our client is seeking a
Mechanical Estimator
to join their growing team in Appleton, Wisconsin. This role is responsible for preparing comprehensive cost estimates and proposals from start to finish to support field construction and pre-fabrication projects across a diverse portfolio of clients and project types. The Mechanical Estimator will develop lump sum bids, unit pricing, quantities, and detailed proposals while collaborating closely with operations, procurement, subcontractors, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive project estimates. Key Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver estimates and proposals for construction projects at various stages of development.
Develop lump sum bids, unit cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs.
Consult with clients, procurement teams, subcontractors, and vendors to formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Interface with Procurement and Operations to secure support and commitment to project cost estimates.
Analyze historical cost data and recommend improvements to estimating procedures.
Identify cost trends and support cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
Compare estimated versus actual project costs and analyze discrepancies.
Ensure compliance with established estimating methodologies and quality standards.
Review DOR completion, assignments, quantities, and overall project scope.
Evaluate subcontractor solicitations, quotes, RFP compliance, clarifications, and exceptions.
Review project documentation to identify scope gaps or overlaps.
Assemble material and labor costs for proposals and client submissions.
Conduct subcontractor and small/disadvantaged business solicitations and prequalification activities.
Analyze and incorporate specialty equipment and material pricing into estimates.
Prepare and distribute bid packages and participate in pre-bid meetings.
Perform subcontractor labor and market studies and provide recommendations.
Develop project summary schedules and estimating strategies.
Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes and recommend pricing strategies.
Provide preliminary pricing for indirect costs and general conditions.
Evaluate fee structures, contingency, and escalation risks.
Review plans and specifications to identify risk and recommend mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with legal counsel to review commercial terms and conditions related to cost and risk.
Maintain accuracy of estimate assumptions and clarifications.
Support value engineering analysis and pricing efforts.
Perform additional duties as assigned while complying with company policies and standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
preferred .
Minimum
3+ years of direct project estimating experience .
Relevant industry experience may substitute for degree requirements.
Strong knowledge of estimating techniques, construction disciplines, and cost control systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with estimating and analytics software such as
Quotesoft, Accubid, Oracle, and PowerBI
preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively while making sound, timely decisions.
