Planning Editor - Spectrum News 13

This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future. Spectrum News is seeking a Planning Editor to manage daily news coverage, special events, and story development across television, mobile, and connected TV platforms. The Planning Editor will work with newsroom managers, executive producers, reporters, and other team members to produce timely, accurate, and engaging content. Responsibilities Plan, schedule, and adjust daily and long‑term coverage for news stories and special events. Monitor government and community agendas to identify and follow ongoing stories. Collaborate with reporters to create and plan new stories, and write and edit stories when required. Maintain and update story schedules, ensuring coverage aligns with newsroom priorities. Coordinate coverage across traditional and digital platforms and support editors and producers as needed. Preferred Qualifications 4+ years of experience in a television newsroom, with at least 3+ years as an Assignment Editor. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to develop and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Experience writing and editing news stories. Technical proficiency with newsroom software and scheduling tools. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communication or comparable television work experience preferred. Ability to lift up to 5 pounds; travel to co‑op neighborhoods is required. Flexible work schedule and ability to cover standby responsibilities. Open to working in a climate‑controlled, semi‑noisy newsroom environment.
