
Social Media Intern

California Environmental Voters is seeking a Social Media Intern to support their Communications Department. The role involves creating engaging content and managing social media channels, with a flexible work schedule of two days in-office and two days remote. The position offers a competitive hourly wage of $18 and emphasizes the importance of racial, social, and environmental justice. Candidates should be ready to contribute creatively to the organization's communications goals.
Wage: $18 per hour | Department: Communications Department | Reports To: Senior Social Media Manager | Location: California, Flexible | Work Schedule: Four‑day work week (two days in office, two days remote; may require five days in some circumstances) | Vaccine Policy: Full vaccination required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in producing graphics and copy for organic and paid media that supports our legislative advocacy and educational work, engaging with followers across multiple platforms, and upholding brand standards and image.
Filming current social media trends and outreaching to climate justice / environmental influencers for organic and paid collaborations (TikTok, Instagram).
Maintaining and tracking our content on our social media management platform to ensure all content is tagged for grant‑deliverable purposes.
Assist with intentional engagement with mutual followers, partner organizations, legislators, etc. on all social platforms to assist with organic growth.
Assist with direct engagement with members of Congress, elected officials, and active staff accounts to increase engagement.
Support the production of social media campaigns that promote voter engagement, issue advocacy, legislative accountability, and research through script writing, filming, production, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience operating and maintaining social media platforms and each of their unique features (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).
Experience with digital content creation and editing software (Canva, CapCut, PicsArt, etc.).
Successfully produced, edited, and developed graphics and photos (videos are a plus).
Willingness to learn new social media management software (Sprout, Hootsuite, etc.).
Thrives in a fast‑paced environment, manages multiple projects, demonstrates organisational skills, and can deliver quality work while balancing competing priorities.
Highly responsive and communicative.
Curious, enjoys analytics to help drive content creation forward on all social platforms; able to work remotely and collaboratively with a team.
Committed to staying on top of social media trends and developments.
Passionate about fighting climate change and committed to building resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and creating a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
Recognizes that Black, Indigenous, and all people of color have borne the biggest burden of our pollution‑based economy for generations.
