Job Summary
This is a sportsperson's dream job. You will have the opportunity to grow your skills in every aspect of sports broadcasting while working in a brand‑new digital newsroom. We are looking for an energetic person to shoot local high school and college sports and bring the games back to our viewers in the tri‑states.
Duties / Responsibilities
Generate content for broadcast, internet, and mobile devices from inception to distribution.
Be on‑call for several special assignments.
Report on‑air during WGEM Sports Extra during football and basketball season.
Follow sports developments and potential sports developments in the coverage area and maintain appropriate files to ensure continuing coverage.
Work with the Sports Director in planning event coverage.
Initiate and maintain contact with sources in the station coverage area.
Appear at community functions to promote the news product.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
Four‑year college degree in Broadcast Journalism or a closely related field.
Superior written and verbal communication abilities.
Previous experience shooting sports highlights.
Must understand the principles of broadcast journalism and be familiar with area issues.
Ability to work on an unsupervised basis while in the field covering news events.
Be detailed, organized, accurate, and creative.
Excellent presentation and reporting skills.
