LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a long-term client who is seeking an experienced Large Group Underwriter to support new business and renewal underwriting for large employer groups. This role requires strong technical underwriting expertise, sound risk assessment skills, and the ability to partner closely with sales, account management, and actuarial teams. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience underwriting large group health plans and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Underwrite new business and renewal large group cases in accordance with underwriting guidelines and company objectives Analyze group census data, claims experience, benefit designs, and financial risk to develop competitive and profitable pricing Prepare rate quotations, benefit summaries, and underwriting recommendations for large group clients Partner with Sales and Account Management to support client negotiations and strategy Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies Review plan changes, renewals, and amendments while maintaining profitability targets Provide consultation and underwriting guidance on complex large group cases Maintain accurate documentation and underwriting files
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Mathematics, or related field Required At least 7+ years of underwriting experience with a strong focus on large group business Prior experience underwriting large employer health plans Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills Ability to interpret claims data, pricing models, and utilization trends Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain underwriting decisions clearly Proficiency with underwriting systems, Excel, and pricing tools
