Indirect Tax Manager (ATL, GA) Position Overview Optomi, in partnership with a leading software company, is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to support a high-volume, U.S.-focused sales and use tax function within a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. This role is primarily responsible for managing and defending multiple concurrent state and local tax audits, supporting indirect tax compliance processes, and partnering cross-functionally to support business initiatives and product taxability decisions. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical tax expertise, data comfort, and the ability to operate independently in a complex and evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities: Audit Defense (Primary Focus) Manage and own approximately 10–12 concurrent state and local sales and use tax audits Serve as primary point of contact for state and local tax authorities Prepare audit responses, documentation, and supporting analysis Challenge audit findings and defend company tax positions Negotiate audit outcomes, including assessments, penalties, and adjustments Indirect Tax Compliance & Support Support indirect tax compliance processes in partnership with third-party providers Review tax filings and supporting data for accuracy and completeness Investigate and resolve variances and discrepancies in tax reporting Tax Research & Advisory Conduct research on sales and use taxability across jurisdictions Provide guidance on tax implications for new products, services, and business initiatives Support tax decision-making in collaboration with finance, legal, IT, and product teams Data & Analytics Work with large, complex datasets to support audits and compliance validation Partner with data teams to extract and interpret transactional data Utilize data tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Power BI or similar) to analyze tax exposure and support audit defense Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with internal stakeholders including finance, controllership, IT, legal, and product teams Communicate tax implications clearly to non-tax audiences Support resolution of customer and internal tax-related disputes

Required Qualifications: 5+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax (sales and use tax) Strong experience in state and local tax audit defense Experience managing multiple concurrent audits Familiarity with tax technology platforms such as Avalara, Sovos, or OneSource Strong analytical skills and experience working with large datasets Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, SQL, or similar) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications Experience in fintech, SaaS, software, or technology-driven environments Experience in large, complex, or multi-entity corporate structures Exposure to automated tax engines or tax transformation initiatives Professional certifications (CPA, CMI, MST, or equivalent) a plus
