Position Summary The Quality Director over Finance Systems is a newly created, strategic leadership role responsible for designing, governing, and sustaining end-to-end quality and process excellence across SunPower’s Finance Systems, including Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Trial Balance, General Ledger, and Financial Reporting. This role is accountable for achieving zero defects, zero rework, and zero audit surprises in all finance system outputs supporting external reporting. Reporting to the EVP, Quality, Customer Success & Engineering, the role requires a hands‑on, results‑driven quality leader with strong ownership, urgency, and the ability to operate effectively at both strategic and execution levels. The successful candidate will drive rigorous quality standards, partner cross‑functionally, and build high‑performing teams while maintaining a pragmatic, no‑ego, execution‑oriented mindset.
Essential Duties
Financial Systems Quality Governance
Assess end-to-end finance system processes spanning GL, AR, AP, revenue recognition, expense recognition, trial balance, and reporting consolidation.
Identify systemic quality risks across data integrity, interfaces, controls, and manual workarounds.
Establish clear, measurable quality requirements for finance systems aligned to: SunPower Quality Policy, Zero-Defect Standard, First Pass Yield (FPY = 100%).
Support the EVP of Quality in establishing a single quality authority over finance system outputs used for external reporting.
Specification Development and Control
Develop, publish, and maintain formal specifications covering: Finance system data integrity and audit requirements, Reconciliation standards, Validation criteria for 10-Q / 10-K filings, Submission and audit readiness requirements.
Ensure and align specifications are version‑controlled, traceable, and enforced across Finance and IT, and audit documentation processes.
Weekly Quality Audits: Preventive and Not Reactive
Conduct Quality audits of finance system outputs, including: AR / Revenue datasets, AP / expense datasets, Trial balance rollups and reconciliations.
Measure First Pass Yield and defect rates. Publish concise weekly audit scorecards highlighting: FPY performance and Systemic risks.
RCCA and Continuous Improvement
Lead Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) for defects and audit rejections.
Drive permanent corrective actions across: Data sources, System interfaces, Quality Controls, and Process ownership.
Activate Andon Cord escalations when systemic or high risks issues arise.
10-Q/10-K Enablement
Act as a critical enabler for on‑time, zero‑defect 10-Q and 10-K filings.
Ensure finance system outputs supporting filings meet: Accuracy, Completeness, Traceability, Audit readiness.
Partner closely with: Chief Accounting Officer, CFO, SOX Compliance, External auditors. Confirm that all submissions are audit-ready before release, eliminating rework and late surprises.
Cross‑Functional Leadership and Training
Partner with Finance, IT, Quality, and Program Management to institutionalize Quality‑by‑Design and accountability across finance systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum BS Degree in Quality Management, or Industrial and Systems Engineering or Business Administration. Preferred MBA with a concentration in financial systems, accounting, financial reporting, quality assurance, and 10Q/10K decision support.
ASQ Quality Certification required (Finance System Audit, ISO9001 Standard).
10+ years of experience in Quality Audit with deep understanding of: Accounting systems and financial reporting flows, Internal controls and SOX concepts and External audit expectations. Experience supporting SEC reporting (10-Q / 10-K) environments.
Proven experience and exceptional ability to drive FPY, Zero Defects, and disciplined process control, draw valid conclusions and influence decisions.
Cultural Fit: Team player, working in a collaborative, start‑up environment.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including executive leadership.
Demonstrates high personal integrity; honest, candid, results‑oriented, and uncompromising on quality standards.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Regular periods of sitting or standing may be required by this position. In addition, this position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
