Job Description
AbbVie is seeking a dynamic Executive Medical Director/Sr. Scientific Director for Medical Affairs, Precision Medicine to lead US CDx strategy in oncology. This role requires a strong background in cancer diagnostics, pathology, biomarkers, and cancer therapeutics, and a demonstrated commitment to precision medicine.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver a comprehensive, US focused medical strategy for upcoming CDx launches, overseeing execution of key deliverables.
Develop and implement the medical affairs strategy for upcoming CDx launches.
Build and maintain key external relationships with diagnostic partners, academic and community labs, and reference labs.
Cultivate relationships with expert pathologists and key opinion leaders.
Forge strong partnerships with leading pathology societies and develop EQA/PT programs.
Represent Medical Affairs in cross-functional Oncology Precision Medicine teams across the organization.
Act as the medical affairs lead on the integrated brand team and medical affairs team.
Develop and execute a biomarker and CDx evidence generation plan in collaboration with precision medicine, HEOR, and TA teams.
Execute key functional deliverables aligned with the CDx medical strategy, including:
Evidence generation to address biomarker and testing gaps.
Medical review of scientific publications.
Educational initiatives for both internal and external audiences on biomarkers and testing.
Review of medical promotional materials for biomarker and testing content.
Collaboration with Value and Evidence teams on guideline strategies for biomarkers and testing.
Insight generation via advisory boards and engagements with external experts.
Develop and implement a congress strategy for pathologists, including EE engagements and digital initiatives.
Support oncology congresses with biomarker and testing materials in partnership with the TA team.
Qualifications
Advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD, or PharmD) required.
At least 10 years of experience within the pharmaceutical industry or a relevant field, with substantial knowledge of oncology or precision medicine.
Strong leadership abilities, including influence without authority in cross-functional teams, prioritization, coaching, mentoring, and conflict resolution.
Experience with companion or complementary diagnostics, ideally in the oncology space.
Experience working with testing landscape stakeholders, including diagnostic partners, academic and community pathologists, precision medicine oncologists, and reference labs.
Prior experience in Medical Affairs within a diagnostic company, reference laboratory, or other functions in pharma is desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location. This range may be modified in the future.
