Brio Energy, Wilmington, NC, United States

Leggett & Platt’s overall mission is a commitment to enhance lives – by delivering quality products, offering empowering and rewarding careers, and doing our part in bringing about a better future.

Leggett & Platt has divisions that design, manufacture, and sell a variety of products for all areas of life. Our reliable product development and launch capability, coupled with our global footprint, make us a trusted partner for customers in the automotive, furniture, hydraulic cylinders, flooring, textile and geo components industries.

Precision Hydraulic Cylinders is committed to providing comprehensive design, service, and support to OEM’s during all phases of development, testing, and production to ensure smooth integration and superior product performance.

The Director of Sourcing is responsible for leading global sourcing strategy, supplier performance, and material cost optimization for a hydraulic cylinder manufacturing organization serving diverse markets (mobile equipment, industrial, agriculture, construction, oil & gas, etc.). This role ensures a stable, cost‑effective supply of critical components—such as steel tube and bar, machined parts, castings, forgings, seals, coatings, electronics, and hydraulic subassemblies—while supporting high mix/low volume and custom‑engineered production environments across multiple global sites.

The Director of Sourcing partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and regional leadership to ensure world‑class supplier performance, production continuity, and competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities Develop global sourcing strategies for key hydraulic cylinder commodities, including steel tube and bar, welded/fabricated components, machined parts, castings, forgings, chrome‑plated rods, surface treatments, hydraulic seals, fittings, hoses, coatings, and packaging. Conduct global market intelligence on steel pricing, alloy availability, freight conditions, and geopolitical impacts. Identify cost‑reduction opportunities through value engineering, supplier consolidation, should‑cost modeling, and localization
ear‑shoring.

Production Continuity & Operations Support Ensure uninterrupted supply of materials to support high‑precision, high‑reliability cylinder production. Work with planning and operations to mitigate constraints such as long‑lead materials, transport delays, and supplier capacity limitations. Drive resilience strategies including multi‑sourcing, safety stock optimization, and regional balancing. Build a high‑performing, globally diversified supply base with strong machining, plating, welding, and sealing capabilities. Lead supplier reviews, scorecards, and continuous improvement actions. Oversee supplier qualification, APQP/PPAP, and compliance with ISO and customer‑specific requirements.

Negotiation & Contracting Lead global negotiations for steel contracts, machined components, freight, and value‑added services. Secure competitive pricing, supply guarantees, capacity reservations, and risk‑mitigation terms. Ensure contract compliance and alignment with legal and financial requirements.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration Support Engineering on new product development, manufacturability, and costed BOMs. Partner with Quality on non‑conformances, corrective actions, and PPM improvements. Align sourcing performance with regional plant and customer expectations. Communicate commodity trends (steel index, plating costs, freight) to leadership. Implement global sourcing processes and ERP alignment. Oversee spend analysis, risk assessments, cost modeling, and forecasting. Track KPIs including cost savings, OTD, PPM, inventory turns, and raw material index trends. Build and mentor a global sourcing team. Establish category ownership, performance metrics, and development plans. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field. 10+ years of sourcing/procurement experience in manufacturing. Strong understanding of hydraulic cylinder components, steel supply chains, machining, coatings, and seals. Experience leading global supplier networks and logistics. Strong negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills.

Preferred:

Experience in hydraulic systems or mobile/off‑highway equipment.

Knowledge of APQP/PPAP, ISO, and customer quality requirements.

Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and cost modeling.

MBA or supply chain certifications.

Commodity expertise (steel, machining, seals, coatings)

Cost analysis and should‑cost modeling
