Director of Software Engineering

Optomi, in partnership with a leading insurance provider, is seeking a Director, Software Engineering to lead the delivery of high-impact applications supporting commercial business operations.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week onsite in one of the following locations: Hartford, CT | Charlotte, NC | Short Hills, NJ.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop a team of senior software engineers and team leads across multiple application initiatives
- Own delivery of complex software solutions aligned to business goals and customer needs
- Drive engineering standards, code quality, and modern development practices across teams
- Guide teams through an ongoing product transformation toward a more modern, product-aligned model
- Partner closely with business and IT stakeholders to define priorities, scope, and execution plans
- Oversee project planning including scope, timelines, resource allocation, and delivery outcomes
- Support modernization efforts including adoption of AI tools for development, testing, and efficiency gains
- Evaluate and implement vendor solutions as needed to support business capabilities
- Promote a culture focused on continuous improvement, accountability, and strong engineering principles
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with progression into leadership roles
- Proven experience managing software engineering teams, including team leads and offshore/onshore resources
- Strong background in application development using modern web technologies
- Experience working within or leading product transformations or modernization initiatives
- Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices
- Ability to influence and collaborate across technical and business teams
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within Microsoft technology stack (.NET, C#, Azure)
- Exposure to AI tools and technologies in software development workflows
- Background in insurance or financial services environments
