Primary Objectives
The Tax Director will serve as a senior leader within the Tax practice, advising multinational clients on complex federal and cross‑border tax matters. This role combines deep technical expertise with client relationship management, practice development, and team leadership responsibilities.
The Tax Director will oversee federal and international tax compliance and consulting engagements, manage client relationships, mentor staff, and contribute to the growth and strategic direction of the firm’s federal and international tax services. This role is primarily responsible for technical review, risk management, quality control, and ensuring full compliance with U.S. tax reporting requirements.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement global tax planning strategies to minimize worldwide tax exposure.
- Advise U.S. and foreign multinational clients on cross‑border structuring, acquisitions, reorganizations, and financing arrangements.
- Advise U.S. and foreign multinational clients on federal and international tax matters including Subpart F, GILTI, FDII, BEAT.
- Review and advise on transfer pricing matters in coordination with specialists.
- Lead federal and international tax planning engagements, modeling, and structuring analyses.
- Provide technical review of complex international tax returns and disclosures (Forms 5471, 5472, 8865, 8858, 1118, 8992, 8993, etc.).
- Oversee GILTI, Subpart F, E&P, PTEP, and tax basis calculations.
- Support international aspects of M&A transactions and due diligence.
- Oversee preparation and review of U.S. income tax compliance for corporate partnership and individual clients.
- Ensure quality control and technical accuracy of all deliverables.
- Stay current on U.S. international tax law developments and IRS guidance.
- Provide guidance on ASC 740 implications related to international operations.
- Serve as primary point of contact for key U.S. and international tax clients.
- Identify cross‑selling opportunities across service lines.
- Deliver presentations and thought leadership to clients and prospects.
- Participate in business development initiatives and proposal preparation.
- Contribute to marketing efforts, webinars, and technical publications.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on strategic growth initiatives.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Managers, Seniors, and Associates.
- Review work, provide technical training, and ensure professional development.
- Foster a collaborative, high‑performance team culture.
- Effectively communicate with Leadership and Operations teams and act as liaison between Firm and clients.
- Initiate and develop new client relationships beneficial to the Firm. These can be professional, civic, and/or community service contacts.
- Build and strengthen relationships with clients; recognize opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients.
- Be active in professional, business or community organizations.
- Support Driven’s business initiatives. Develop and execute a clear plan to attract new businesses, considering Driven’s growth goals.
- Manage the engagement economics, billing and collections and engagement letters.
- Keep Partners/Principals informed of all developments, changes and/or matters related to client engagements.
- Evaluate & monitor the technical knowledge and performance of tax professionals, Managers, Seniors and Associates according to Firm’s policy, and coordinate assigned projects based on staff skill sets.
- Make recommendations and facilitate opportunities for professional growth and development of all staff.
- Contribute to overall succession planning for the team, including developing tax managers.
- Develop content and participate in-house and local/external learning and training sessions as an instructor.
- Actively manage work/life flexibility on engagements, including planning for vacations.
- Review resume and conduct interviews for recruitment of candidates and consultants.
- Manage consulting work, budgets, and assist with administrative functions and other responsibilities as assigned by the partners/principals.
Qualifications
- CPA license required, MST, JD, or LLM in Tax preferred.
- Minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in domestic and/or international tax within a public accounting environment.
- Demonstrates strong technical knowledge of U.S. international tax laws, accounting standards & regulations, research techniques, analytics.
- Knowledge of state, local, and sales and use taxes is preferred but not required.
- Possesses exemplary budgeting & analytical skills, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency with tax, accounting, and software programs, including Microsoft applications.
- Possesses excellent verbal, written, communication and collaboration skills.
- Fully bilingual (Spanish and English).
- Demonstrate leadership and the ability to work toward the Firm’s goals and values.
- Possess strong project management skills.
- Is a self‑starter who works efficiently, remains attentive and completes assignments in a timely manner.
