EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The U.S.-Argentina Fulbright Commission (FulbrightArgentina) invites U.S. and Argentine citizens to apply for the position of Executive Director. Founded in 1963, FulbrightArgentina is a non‑profit, binational organization which promotes mutual understanding between both nations through the academic and cultural exchange programs. The Commission administers a wide range of merit‑based programs that connect students, scholars, and professionals.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director oversees an annual budget of over $2 million and assets worth $4 million, and reports to a binational board, which includes Argentine and U.S. members and representatives of the U.S. Embassy, as well as to the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. She provides strategic and operational leadership for all programs, including planning and managing budgets, developing and implementing program operational plans; ensuring a strong pipeline of qualified candidates from Argentina and the United States; coordinating with key stakeholders to implement agreements and uphold Fulbright standards of transparency, quality, and merit; and raising funds to support the Commission’s long‑term sustainability, including developing and implementing a long‑term, diversified fundraising strategy. Additionally, the Executive Director ensures that all Commission processes and policies align with U.S. Department of State requirements and Argentine legal frameworks, proactively identifying and mitigating operational, financial, and reputational risks.
The Executive Director is the public face of a high‑profile, prestigious binational program, requiring outstanding interpersonal, public speaking, and diplomatic skills. She leads, motivates, and develops a high‑performing team, establishes clear HR policies and practices, promotes a culture of professionalism, integrity, and collaboration, and addresses complex operational challenges with sound judgment. The Executive Director builds and maintains strategic relationships with Argentine and U.S. government counterparts and universities, and partner institutions; engages actively with other Fulbright commissions and associations worldwide; and fosters a strong Fulbright Argentina alumni and candidate community. This role requires the ability to lead and oversee a multicultural team that collaborates with a complex network, and the ability to bring together different interests in a constructive, solution‑oriented manner.
Qualifications
The candidate should have a minimum of ten years of progressively professional experience, including hands‑on leadership of small and medium‑sized teams, experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors or senior leadership, and proven responsibility for budgets, strategically managing and overseeing the financial health of the organization, and fundraising. The Executive Director will have solid knowledge of the higher education and culture sectors, both public and private, in Argentina and experience with the U.S. higher education system. A strong understanding of Argentina and Argentine institutions is essential. Candidates must already be legally eligible to work in Argentina, possess an advanced degree, and have fluency in both English and Spanish.
