Role Overview
The Director, Business Development is a senior commercial leader responsible for driving Fluence’s growth across the Americas by originating, shaping, and closing high‑value opportunities. This role serves as a trusted advisor to customers, a strategic partner to internal teams, and a champion of Fluence’s mission to transform the way we power our world.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead business development initiatives to expand Fluence’s market presence and drive adoption of energy storage and digital solutions.
- Own strategic customer relationships and guide them through the full commercial lifecycle.
- Shape deal strategy, structure transactions, and quantify customer value using Fluence’s modeling tools.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product, Sales Engineering, Market Applications, Delivery, and Marketing teams to craft compelling solutions.
- Maintain accurate pipeline management and forecasting using CRM platforms.
- Represent Fluence at conferences, speaking engagements, and strategic forums.
- Monitor competitive dynamics, regulatory developments, and market shifts to inform strategy.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of technical sales, commercial, or business development experience in energy, software, or related fields.
- Proven track record closing multi‑million‑dollar B2B or utility‑scale transactions.
- Strong analytical capability, including value modeling and commercial structuring.
- Deep understanding of utilities, IPPs, developers, and/or enterprise energy customers.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive‑level presentation skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, or related discipline required.
- MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Experience & Attributes
- Experience with SaaS or digital optimization platforms.
- Knowledge of energy storage technologies, grid services, and market design.
- Ability to influence without authority and collaborate across a global matrix organization.
- Highly organized, self‑directed, and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment.
